YOUTH OPPORTUNITIES

Cardinal Place Before/After School Program

Cardinal Place is a before/after school program designed for school-aged children in Kindergarten through Sixth grade. Cardinal Place is a non-profit organization administered through Willmar Community Education & Recreation. This program is located at Kennedy, Jefferson, and Lincoln Elementary schools. Cardinal Place is open from 6:30am to the start of school, and after school until 6:00pm. Cardinal Place is also open on non-school days as well as summer vacation and snow days.

Cardinal Place provides a caring and fun environment for children that meet social, physical, and emotional needs through a variety of experiences and activities. We encourage children to make positive choices while promoting self awareness, fostering creativity and providing leadership opportunities.

Cardinal Place offers enrichment, recreational and academic assistance through a variety of activities such as arts, crafts, sports, games, clubs, service learning, foreign language, technology, journalism, drama, cooking and much more!!

Youth Enrichment

Youth Enrichment Programs consist of both after school programs, youth service learning, and leadership programs. Willmar Community Education & Recreation partners with other organizations to provide high quality youth enrichment opportunities. Examples of these partnerships include Prairie Woods Environmental Learning Center and providing two artist in residency programs with Prarie Fire Theater each year. Other enrichment opportunities include Rural Youth Leaders, Gifted and Talented Academy Camp and music lessons to name a few. Click here to view our current programs!

Youth Recreation

Youth leagues are organized year round for team sports such as soccer, football, baseball, softball, wrestling, and hockey. Leisure recreational opportunities also occur such as tennis, basketball, golf, gymnastics, and much more. Click here to view our current programs!

Driver's Education

Steps to Getting Your Driver's License:
1.Take 30 Hours of Classroom Training
2. Take and Pass Permit Test
3. Take Six Hours of Behind the Wheel Training
4. Take Driver's License Exam

Aquatics

Aquatic programs run year-round for youth. Opportunities include Swimming Lessons, Friday Night Swim, Life Guard Training, Water Safety Instructor Training (WSI), Robbin's Island Beach, Dorothy A.
