Earn a GED

The GED consists of five tests: Social Studies, Science, Reading, Math and Writing.    The GED is a timed, standardized test.  There is a $60 fee to take the tests.  You may pay for an individual test at the rate of $16 per test (equaling $80 total).  You must be 19 years old to test or qualify for an age waiver and have a state issued ID (driver’s license).  You can call 320.231.8480 for more information about the waiver process.

Preparation:   Practice tests, individual/small group instruction and computer programs to assist you in passing the five GED tests are available on site.   There are also Distance Learning opportunities available.

Testing:  Ridgewater College is the regional testing center.  Testing occurs at Ridgewater on two Thursday evenings per month from 5:30 PM to 9:30 PM.  It is a good idea to call ahead and reserve a seat for testing.  Call Karen at 320.222.5984.  Testing takes place at the Student Services Building,
Room A 154.

Testing at Jefferson occurs during the day, usually on a Friday morning.  There is a sign-up sheet for testing.  The schedule varies upon need.
Call 320.231.8480 for the next testing dates.

The GED test is changing in 2014!

In 2014 there will be a new version of the GED test.  The new test will be an electronic version.  There will be some changes in the test: for example, the reading and writing test will be combined into one test, essays will all be typed on the computer and there will be more than one.

If you start testing before January 2014:

You must finish ALL FIVE TESTS by DEC 2013
or You WILL LOSE Your SCORES.
